Hi! I'm Sam Myers and I do mosaics, stained glass and glass painting. I like to work in mixed media, primarily glass.
I am originally from England, now living in Western Massachusetts. I have also lived in Germany, Cyprus, Maui, and California.
I am consumed by my art, in particular the colors. The inspiration for my glass work comes from my love of the ocean. Everything I do has to be about motion and movement. When I do the stained glass, I am thinking about water and colors that complement each other. The hardest thing I do in stained glass is selecting the right type of glass. The piece has to look different depending on the light – during the day the glass is tranquil and peaceful. As the light changes through the day, it becomes vibrant and alive. I want the piece to dynamically react to its environment.
I am so passionate about my work, whatever the medium. I am attracted to bright, vivid colors. The combinations of the colors are spontaneous and come from within. I put colors that bounce and vibrate together to create the illusion of depth and motion. Geometries and fractal designs fascinate me – they are the structure of the universe.
